Housing market update

Despite a drop in gas prices that has provided some near-term relief for Americans, elevated food prices and rent continued to keep cost of living at a painfully high level. The same is true for buyers in the housing market. The combination of elevated home prices, higher mortgage rates and slower income growth has reduced affordability and dampened both new and existing home sales. That said, while Americans’ incomes rose more slowly in July, those gains were not swallowed up by higher prices for the first time in the past few months. The latest revision on the second quarter Gross Domestic Product also offers some encouraging news, as both consumer spending and business investment have held up better than expected, suggesting a slightly stronger economy than previously reported.

Increased Public Remarks Character Count

On September 12th, the Paragon 5 MLS platform will be updated to allow up to 1300 characters in the “Public Remarks”. This increase in character allotment will allow listing agents to include additional marketing language in their listings.

September Paragon Enhancements

In September the following enhancements will be implemented in the Paragon 5 MLS. These changes will enhance your user experience and increase the amount of data at your fingertips!

Enhancements include:
1. IDX Broker Attribution (Required by September 1st)
2. Changes to MLS Area & Tour Group (Effective September 12th)

CA Law – Sexual Harassment Training Required Every 2 Years

Reminder: State law requires Designated Brokers to complete supervisory sexual harassment training and provide employees with access to training.

Additionally, salespeople, brokers, broker associates, and independent contractors are now personally liable for sexual harassment in professional relationships with clients—even if the relationship has ended.

Risk Management Tip:
The responsible broker and anyone supervising agents or employees—including those who hire, fire, reward, or discipline—should also complete supervisory training.

In an effort to make ethics violations and the disciplinary process more transparent, C.A.R. is publishing the names of members who are found in violation of the Code of Ethics as well as summaries of the members’ unethical behavior.
