CANDIDATE STATEMENTS
The below statements are published as submitted, they have not been edited by the Association.
President-Elect (1 Open Position)
TYRA WRIGHT
I enjoy teamwork and I have put in time and effort to serve our Association at the Local and State level.
I have served on various committees such as: Budget/Finance, Grievance, Local Candidate Recommendation and Local Government Relations. As a leader I have served as Chairperson for Local Government Relations (2015 and 2016) and Local Candidate Recommendation (2022) and as Vice Chair, Grievance Committee (2017). I am currently a Director-At-Large (CCAR) as well as a C.A.R. Director.
In my community within the City of El Cerrito, I was appointed by the City Council as one of the landlord representatives to work on a task force to analyze data and make a recommendation to the City Council on whether the city should put a rent control ordinance in place. The outcome based on the data was that the City of El Cerrito did not need a rent control ordinance.
In leadership, I believe collaboration and relationships are key. When we work together as a team, we can keep our association moving forward while meeting the needs of our members and the communities we serve. I respectively ask for your vote for 2023 President Elect.
Treasurer (1 Open Position)
DARNELLA AULANI
I’m a real estate broker, 30 years in the industry. I’m currently serving CCAR Board of Directors, Budget & Finance and Forms, California Association of REALTORS®(CAR) State Director, Legislative, Federal, and Professional Standards.
I am well versed in serving as a REALTOR® Association Treasurer, having served as President & Treasurer of another REALTOR® Association, President of WCR Delta, CAR Director for the last 16 years, CAR Strategic Planning & Executive. In addition, I’m a holder of 8 designations, a master’s degree, and a School Board member.
I have served many years on the Professional Standards Committee and have earned the trust of my fellow REALTORS® to oversee the Professional Standards Hearings as Presiding Officer. I promise to serve with the same or greater integrity while serving as treasurer.
I have successfully guided many plans of action while serving on over a hundred leadership positions for the last 18 years. These roles helped me gain vast experience, knowledge, and understanding of our industry, clients needs and of the community. I firmly believe that my exposure, knowledge, and achievements have put me in a unique position to qualify as Treasurer of C.C.A.R.
I thank you in advance for your vote.
Director-at-Large (4 Open Positions)
Mary Beall Neighbor
I am proud to be a Realtor and a member of CCAR. I always want to give back and have been able to serve as a Director at Large for 2 years, a member of the Forms Committee for 6 years and a member of the Speakers Bureau for 3 years. I would like to run for Director at Large. It took me many years after recieving my real estate license to recognize the importance and value of the Board of Realtors and how they are constantly improving our ability to do business by upgrading the MLS and the technology. I have had my license and been a full time Agent/Broker since 1979. I love our business and would love to serve you as Director at Large. Thank you for your consideration!
Lito Calimlim
I have been involved with CCAR now since 2007 when I was selected to the Grievance Committee. I volunteered there for three years. After those three years, I elected to increase my involvement even more by moving to the Professional Standards Committee. I have been on the Professional Standards Committee from 2010 until now. It’s amazing how quickly that time has come and gone. The rewards of serving on these two committees has been enlightening. I have learned so much and it has helped me to become a better Realtor. I believe it is now time to move from the comfort of the Professional Standards Committee and accept the challenges of a Director position. I hope to serve the needs of the CCAR community with the time and efforts I can put into being a Director. I ask for your vote and support in this upcoming election.
VALERIE CROWELL
I am seeking to be a Director at Large, representing my Realtor community, with our Association, CCAR. I come to you with 46 years in the real estate industry. The first 32 having been in the title insurance industry. The second 14 years as an agent. I am a Broker Associate and a third generation Realtor. I keenly understand what we, as Realtors, bring to a real estate transaction and the value of a well trained, ethical agent. That agent cannot be replaced by an algorithm. I believe that the better we are, the more our value shines through.
I’ve been serving on the MLS committee for the last three years and previously the Helping Hands committee. Both committees taught me the incredible value CCAR provides our membership and our community. It’s imperative that our board supports its members growth and success. I would like to serve in support of that purpose.
What I love about the Realtor community is the good our membership does outside of our businesses. Personally, I volunteer in support of dog rescue, Parkinsons disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
John Fondnazio
Since receiving my real estate license in 2013 I have been an active participant within our real estate community. I have gravitated towards a leadership role in all of my various positions throughout the last several years. The experiences from my service have helped me foster strong relationships with my clients, colleagues, and piers. My career has been positively affected by my association with CCAR and my brokerage. It would be a great honor to serve CCAR as a Director at Large.
MIKE HANDLIN
My name is Mike Handlin. I’m with Keller Williams Realty in Walnut Creek. I have served for three years on the Grievance Committee, 11 years on Budget & Finance, thirteen years on LGR (and am the current Chair of LGR), several other committees plus two years as President of CCRIM. I have served on the Board for a total of eight years and on the Executive Committee for two years. I am running for the Board again because there are many changes taking place in the real estate industry and I want to be part of the decision making process and help our Association grow in the proper direction. I feel very strongly that this industry has been very good to me and I would like to give some of that back through service to our real estate community.
I ask you to please vote for me for Director-At-Large when you vote in this coming election. Thank you for your consideration.
PETER MACLENNAN
I have been a licensed broker since 2008. After working for a commercial hard money lender, I started my own brokerage, Maclennan Investment Group, Inc. Since 2011, I have been a full-time broker. I have helped residential clients buy and sell homes, investors buy and exchange investment properties, businesses lease space, and developers find land. I currently serve as Chair on the MLS & Technology committee and am a member on Budget & Finance. I have been married to my wife Lisa for 15 years and we have 6 children. My family and I volunteer with Safe Refuge for Children and Families and are active in our church and community. I have served as a soccer coach and on the board of our neighborhood association.
Real estate is the greatest wealth building tool for most Americans. If elected as a director, I will continue to be an advocate for the value that REALTORS® bring to our clients and real estate transactions. As a director, I will work to ensure that CCAR remains a dynamic organization dedicated to preserving and protecting real property ownership rights and expanding access to real estate ownership in our region.
JUDY MYERS
I have been honored to serve CCAR in many capacities over the years. My current service includes two committees besides the Executive Committee and Budget and Finance which I chair as Treasurer. I hope to continue serving on the Board of Directors to address the pressing issues facing our local, state and national associations and the threats to our industry and to the clients we serve. My terms as a CAR and NAR Director will continue and it’s important to stay connected with what’s important to CCAR members. Beyond the monthly Board of Directors meetings it is the role of the Director at Large to engage with the membership and serve as a committee liaison. This communication is critical for good leadership and decisions.
Please honor me with your vote and feel free to contact me with your concerns as I will be contacting you.
MATT RUBENSTEIN
I became a resident of Contra Costa County when my family moved to Walnut Creek in 1970. I attended Northgate schools from the first grade through high school, as my sixth grade son is doing now. Following a successful career in software development and marketing, I have been actively participating in Real Estate community activities like CCRIM and RMA regularly since becoming licensed in 2010. I have participated as a member of the MLS and Business Development Committee consistently since 2017. I joined because I’m very interested in new and emerging technologies that are being developed for our industry and better leveraging the incredible resource that we have available to us in our MLS data. My desire is to continue serving as Director at Large and give back what I can to the industry that given so much to me over these past twelve years. If elected, I will share my time and offer the benefit of my experience from having been a highly active and high producing Agent in our local markets for over a decade.
