New Fire Insurance Resources To Keep Your Clients Informed

New NAR Fair Housing Training Requirement

National Association of REALTORS® new-member applicants must now complete two hours of fair housing training and existing members must complete two hours of fair housing training every three years as a condition of REALTOR® membership, including one training option that is of no cost to members.

New NAR Fair Housing Training Requirement

The new requirement was approved by the association’s Board of Directors at its May 11 meeting. The three-year cycle coincides with NAR’s existing Code of Ethics training requirement and begins in 2025.

Courses satisfying the new NAR requirement are:

At Home With Diversity, a course to help real estate professionals work successfully in an increasingly diverse marketplace
Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing, a course to help real estate professionals identify and interrupt stereotypical thinking to avoid fair housing pitfalls
Qualified equivalent courses provided by state and local associations, institutes, societies and councils, and their partnered providers
Qualified equivalent fair housing courses approved by state licensing authorities for an existing state fair housing requirement
A to-be-created non-residential practitioner course focused on bias and anti-discrimination training

Fairhaven, NAR’s online fair housing simulation, will also be updated to meet the stated learning objectives and two-hour minimum time frame so that it can be included in the list of qualifying courses and serve as the no-cost option.

The recommendation came out of a workgroup appointed by NAR’s Member Policy and Board Jurisdiction Committee, which advanced the recommendation to the board. NAR’s Association Executives, Professional Development, Diversity and Fair Housing Policy committees also voted in support of the new fair housing training requirement.

Visit Fairhaven for Hands-on Fair Housing Training

Fairhaven is a town every REALTOR® should visit. Online, that is. Fairhaven, a fair housing simulation training for REALTORS® that uses the power of storytelling to help members identify, prevent, and address discriminatory practices in real estate.

Inspired by real stories, this innovative online experience has agents work against the clock to sell homes in the fictional town of Fairhaven, while confronting discrimination in the homebuying process. Learners will also walk in the shoes of a homebuyer facing discrimination. The training provides customized feedback that learners can apply to daily business interactions.

In today’s evolving real estate landscape, in-person etiquette has taken on new importance. As spring and summer heat up and showing activity increases, it’s essential to lead with professionalism and respect.

Be mindful that showing a home is a privilege—not a right. Courtesy toward the seller and listing agent reflects not only your personal brand but the profession as a whole.

Allstate, State Farm Stop Selling Policies
to New CA Customers; C.A.R. Seeking Solutions

New homebuyers requiring insurance to purchase property in California can no longer look to Allstate and State Farm to carry their policies, but other options are still available. However, State Farm and Allstate will continue to service and renew policies of existing clients in the state.

C.A.R. staff is actively collaborating with the CA Department of Insurance and insurance lobbyists and organizations to help maintain a robust insurance market for property in California. An industry coalition has been formed and C.A.R. will continue to advocate for for homebuyers.

Get ready for the 2025 CCAR Board of Directors election next Monday! Take a few minutes to review the candidate statements and familiarize yourself with your fellow members seeking service on the Board.

This election will determine the 2025 President-Elect, Treasurer, and four Directors-At-Large. To validate the election, we need at least 576 members, 15% of the total CCAR REALTOR® Membership as of the May 10 election record date, to cast their votes. Your vote matters!

HOA Picklist Updates & HOA Management Companies – June 12

On June 12th, the Paragon 5 MLS will be updated to contain an accurate picklist of HOAs for Alameda and Contra Costa counties as well as the addition of a new field for “HOA Management Companies”.

If you need to have a new HOA or HOA Management company added to the picklists in the MLS, please contact us via email and include documentation and/or URLs from the HOA and/or HOA Management Company.
