CCAR Scholarships – Apply by Mar. 31

The CCAR Scholarship Foundation provides scholarship awards of up to $10,000 to qualified students residing in Contra Costa County. Their commitment to support higher education is the heart of the Foundation’s desire to make a difference!

Candidates may be either high school seniors, trade school, undergraduate or graduate students. All applicants must strictly comply with the application process and fully meet the Foundation’s requirements.

Completed applications must be submitted by March 31, 2024.

Tempering Mortgage Rates Propel
California Home Sales in January

California existing home sales rebounded in January to the highest level in six months as mortgage rates pulled back sharply at the end of 2023, according to C.A.R.’s January home sales and price report.

Existing, single-family home sales totaled 256,160 in January on a seasonally adjusted annualized rate, up 14.4 percent from 224,000 in December and up 5.9 percent from 241,920 in January 2023.

January’s statewide median home price was $788,940, down 3.8 percent from December and up 5.0 percent from $751,700 in January 2023.

Year-to-date statewide home sales were down 5.9 percent.

Latest Results: Mar. 5 Primary Election

As of today, March 19, 2024, approximately 650 ballots remain to be counted in Contra Costa County. This process is expected to be complete by the end of the day on Friday, March 22, 2024. However, the Secretary of State has until Tuesday, April 12th to certify the election results, as many counties are still counting ballots.

In Contra Costa County, the voter turnout stands at 37.80%, with a total of 268,546 ballots cast out of 710,254 registered voters.

Regarding State Office Races, the top two candidates, regardless of vote count, will advance to the general election. Click ‘Read More’ below for detailed results.

In an effort to make ethics violations and the disciplinary process more transparent, C.A.R. is publishing the names of members who are found in violation of the Code of Ethics as well as summaries of the members’ unethical behavior.

Member publication is triggered only if the discipline imposed is a reprimand, fine, suspension or expulsion – anything other than a letter of warning or stand-alone education. The information will be published on the members-only section of car.org.

Showing Etiquette and Professionalism

The rules for in-person etiquette have changed, and it’s important to observe those changes to position yourself as a professional who cares. As the real estate market begins to pick up after the holidays, expect an increase in showings, and being courteous to the seller and listing agent is important. Remember, showing a home is a privilege, not a right.

15 Common Courtesies to follow during showings:

TIME LIMIT – Be respectful of the time you scheduled for a showing. If the property is occupied, the owner may be on their way home. There may also be other agents waiting to see the home after you.
PETS – Do not let a dog or cat out of the home while you are opening a door. Assume all homes have a pet that could run out at any time.
KNOCK FIRST – Prior to opening a lockbox, always ring the doorbell. The seller may be home and you could startle them by entering unannounced. You should also announce yourself, “REALTOR!” when you walk through the door.
STAY OFF THE GRASS – Avoid cutting across the grass to get to the front door, always use the walkway.
KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF – Never adjust the air conditioning or heat in a home. By adjusting or tweaking a system, you may be launching a problem that you were unaware of, such as a leaky cooling unit.

at Blackhawk Auto Museum

CCAR Welcomes 2024 President, Tyra Wright; President-Elect, Zina Hall; Past-President, David Schubb; Treasurer, Darnella Aulani; Secretary/CEO, Sheiren Diaz; Directors: Mary Beall-Neighbor, Aeysha Corio, Valerie Crowell, John Fondnazio, Debi Mackey, Judy Myers, Matt Rubenstein, Donna Souza; and Affiliate Liaison, Martha Echols.

Over 230 members and guests gathered at the Blackhawk Auto Museum on Saturday, January 13 to celebrate the swearing-in of the new CCAR Board of Directors, led by President Tyra Wright. REALTOR® Zina Hall received official recognition as the incoming President-Elect and a select group of outstanding members received the Association’s highest professional awards. Ruthie Ableson-Olivas received the President’s Community Service Award, Kim Falahati earned the Affiliate of the Year Award, Tyra Wright was honored as REALTOR® of the Year, and Carylon Dopp received the CCAR Emeritus Award. Event Emcee Mark Ibanez (formerly KTVU Ch. 2) charmed the crowd in his usual manner and C.A.R. President Melanie Barker acted as officiant for the formal induction ceremony.

Featured guests included City and County officials and staff, such as County Supervisor’s Candace Andersen, John Gioia, and Ken Carlson along with CCAR past presidents, volunteers, affiliates, and sponsors. Leadership and staff from Associations around the Bay Area also attended.
